At a farm, there were
47 as many turkeys and geese. The farmer added another 22 turkeys but sold away 45 geese. In the end, there were 5 geese more than turkeys. How many turkeys and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Geese |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 22 |
- 45 |
After |
4 u + 22 |
7 u - 45 |
If the farmer had another 5 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 45 = 4 u + 22 + 5
7 u - 4 u = 27 + 45
3 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 3 = 24
Number of geese and turkeys in the end
= 4 u + 22 + 7 u - 45
= 4 u + 7 u + 22 - 45
= 11 u - 23
= 11 x 24 - 23
= 241
