At a farm, there were
57 as many geese and turkeys. The farmer added another 22 geese but sold away 35 turkeys. In the end, there were 5 turkeys more than geese. How many geese and turkeys were there altogether in the end?
|
Geese |
Turkeys |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 22 |
- 35 |
After |
5 u + 22 |
7 u - 35 |
If the farmer had another 5 geese in the end, the number of geese and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 35 = 5 u + 22 + 5
7 u - 5 u = 27 + 35
2 u = 62
1 u = 62 ÷ 2 = 31
Number of turkeys and geese in the end
= 5 u + 22 + 7 u - 35
= 5 u + 7 u + 22 - 35
= 12 u - 13
= 12 x 31 - 13
= 359
