At a farm, there were
57 as many pigs and goats. The farmer added another 24 pigs but sold away 39 goats. In the end, there were 9 goats more than pigs. How many pigs and goats were there altogether in the end?
|
Pigs |
Goats |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 24 |
- 39 |
After |
5 u + 24 |
7 u - 39 |
If the farmer had another 9 pigs in the end, the number of pigs and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 39 = 5 u + 24 + 9
7 u - 5 u = 33 + 39
2 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 2 = 36
Number of goats and pigs in the end
= 5 u + 24 + 7 u - 39
= 5 u + 7 u + 24 - 39
= 12 u - 15
= 12 x 36 - 15
= 417
Answer(s): 417
