At a farm, there were
58 as many turkeys and pigs. The farmer added another 28 turkeys but sold away 48 pigs. In the end, there were 2 pigs more than turkeys. How many turkeys and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Pigs |
Before |
5 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 28 |
- 48 |
After |
5 u + 28 |
8 u - 48 |
If the farmer had another 2 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 48 = 5 u + 28 + 2
8 u - 5 u = 30 + 48
3 u = 78
1 u = 78 ÷ 3 = 26
Number of pigs and turkeys in the end
= 5 u + 28 + 8 u - 48
= 5 u + 8 u + 28 - 48
= 13 u - 20
= 13 x 26 - 20
= 318
Answer(s): 318
