At a farm, there were
47 as many ducks and cows. The farmer added another 32 ducks but sold away 46 cows. In the end, there were 6 cows more than ducks. How many ducks and cows were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Cows |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 32 |
- 46 |
After |
4 u + 32 |
7 u - 46 |
If the farmer had another 6 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 46 = 4 u + 32 + 6
7 u - 4 u = 38 + 46
3 u = 84
1 u = 84 ÷ 3 = 28
Number of cows and ducks in the end
= 4 u + 32 + 7 u - 46
= 4 u + 7 u + 32 - 46
= 11 u - 14
= 11 x 28 - 14
= 294
Answer(s): 294
