At a farm, there were
37 as many turkeys and goats. The farmer added another 32 turkeys but sold away 38 goats. In the end, there were 2 goats more than turkeys. How many turkeys and goats were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Goats |
Before |
3 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 32 |
- 38 |
After |
3 u + 32 |
7 u - 38 |
If the farmer had another 2 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 38 = 3 u + 32 + 2
7 u - 3 u = 34 + 38
4 u = 72
1 u = 72 ÷ 4 = 18
Number of goats and turkeys in the end
= 3 u + 32 + 7 u - 38
= 3 u + 7 u + 32 - 38
= 10 u - 6
= 10 x 18 - 6
= 174
