At a farm, there were
611 as many pigs and sheep. The farmer added another 32 pigs but sold away 37 sheep. In the end, there were 6 sheep more than pigs. How many pigs and sheep were there altogether in the end?
|
Pigs |
Sheep |
Before |
6 u |
11 u |
Change |
+ 32 |
- 37 |
After |
6 u + 32 |
11 u - 37 |
If the farmer had another 6 pigs in the end, the number of pigs and (chickens) would be the same.
11 u - 37 = 6 u + 32 + 6
11 u - 6 u = 38 + 37
5 u = 75
1 u = 75 ÷ 5 = 15
Number of sheep and pigs in the end
= 6 u + 32 + 11 u - 37
= 6 u + 11 u + 32 - 37
= 17 u - 5
= 17 x 15 - 5
= 250
