At a farm, there were
47 as many turkeys and cows. The farmer added another 22 turkeys but sold away 38 cows. In the end, there were 9 cows more than turkeys. How many turkeys and cows were there altogether in the end?
|
Turkeys |
Cows |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 22 |
- 38 |
After |
4 u + 22 |
7 u - 38 |
If the farmer had another 9 turkeys in the end, the number of turkeys and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 38 = 4 u + 22 + 9
7 u - 4 u = 31 + 38
3 u = 69
1 u = 69 ÷ 3 = 23
Number of cows and turkeys in the end
= 4 u + 22 + 7 u - 38
= 4 u + 7 u + 22 - 38
= 11 u - 16
= 11 x 23 - 16
= 237
