At a farm, there were
35 as many ducks and sheep. The farmer added another 20 ducks but sold away 36 sheep. In the end, there were 4 sheep more than ducks. How many ducks and sheep were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Sheep |
Before |
3 u |
5 u |
Change |
+ 20 |
- 36 |
After |
3 u + 20 |
5 u - 36 |
If the farmer had another 4 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
5 u - 36 = 3 u + 20 + 4
5 u - 3 u = 24 + 36
2 u = 60
1 u = 60 ÷ 2 = 30
Number of sheep and ducks in the end
= 3 u + 20 + 5 u - 36
= 3 u + 5 u + 20 - 36
= 8 u - 16
= 8 x 30 - 16
= 224
