At a farm, there were
57 as many ducks and pigs. The farmer added another 21 ducks but sold away 40 pigs. In the end, there were 5 pigs more than ducks. How many ducks and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Pigs |
Before |
5 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 21 |
- 40 |
After |
5 u + 21 |
7 u - 40 |
If the farmer had another 5 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 40 = 5 u + 21 + 5
7 u - 5 u = 26 + 40
2 u = 66
1 u = 66 ÷ 2 = 33
Number of pigs and ducks in the end
= 5 u + 21 + 7 u - 40
= 5 u + 7 u + 21 - 40
= 12 u - 19
= 12 x 33 - 19
= 377
Answer(s): 377
