At a farm, there were
47 as many sheep and ducks. The farmer added another 29 sheep but sold away 44 ducks. In the end, there were 8 ducks more than sheep. How many sheep and ducks were there altogether in the end?
|
Sheep |
Ducks |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 29 |
- 44 |
After |
4 u + 29 |
7 u - 44 |
If the farmer had another 8 sheep in the end, the number of sheep and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 44 = 4 u + 29 + 8
7 u - 4 u = 37 + 44
3 u = 81
1 u = 81 ÷ 3 = 27
Number of ducks and sheep in the end
= 4 u + 29 + 7 u - 44
= 4 u + 7 u + 29 - 44
= 11 u - 15
= 11 x 27 - 15
= 282
Answer(s): 282
