At a farm, there were
47 as many chickens and geese. The farmer added another 25 chickens but sold away 45 geese. In the end, there were 5 geese more than chickens. How many chickens and geese were there altogether in the end?
|
Chickens |
Geese |
Before |
4 u |
7 u |
Change |
+ 25 |
- 45 |
After |
4 u + 25 |
7 u - 45 |
If the farmer had another 5 chickens in the end, the number of chickens and (chickens) would be the same.
7 u - 45 = 4 u + 25 + 5
7 u - 4 u = 30 + 45
3 u = 75
1 u = 75 ÷ 3 = 25
Number of geese and chickens in the end
= 4 u + 25 + 7 u - 45
= 4 u + 7 u + 25 - 45
= 11 u - 20
= 11 x 25 - 20
= 255
