At a farm, there were
58 as many ducks and pigs. The farmer added another 26 ducks but sold away 49 pigs. In the end, there were 9 pigs more than ducks. How many ducks and pigs were there altogether in the end?
|
Ducks |
Pigs |
Before |
5 u |
8 u |
Change |
+ 26 |
- 49 |
After |
5 u + 26 |
8 u - 49 |
If the farmer had another 9 ducks in the end, the number of ducks and (chickens) would be the same.
8 u - 49 = 5 u + 26 + 9
8 u - 5 u = 35 + 49
3 u = 84
1 u = 84 ÷ 3 = 28
Number of pigs and ducks in the end
= 5 u + 26 + 8 u - 49
= 5 u + 8 u + 26 - 49
= 13 u - 23
= 13 x 28 - 23
= 341
