A jar contained 4.7 ℓ more water than a bottle. After some water was poured from the jar to the bottle, both the jar and the bottle had 4 ℓ of water each. How much water was there in the bottle at first?

Volume of water in the bottle = 1 u
Volume of water in the jar = 1 u + 4.7
Total volume of water
= 1 u + 1 u + 4.7
= 2 u + 4.7
Total volume of water
= 2 x 4
= 8 ℓ
When water is poured from the jar to the bottle, the total volume remains unchanged.
2 u + 4.7 = 8
2 u = 8 - 4.7
2 u = 3.3
1 u = 3.3 ÷ 2 = 1.65
Volume of water in the bottle at first = 1.65 ℓ
Answer(s): 1.65 ℓ
