Volume of water in the pail = 1 u
Volume of water in the barrel = 1 u + 4.9
Total volume of water
= 1 u + 1 u + 4.9
= 2 u + 4.9
Total volume of water
= 2 x 5
= 10 ℓ
When water is poured from the barrel to the pail, the total volume remains unchanged.
2 u + 4.9 = 10
2 u = 10 - 4.9
2 u = 5.1
1 u = 5.1 ÷ 2 = 2.55
Volume of water in the pail at first = 2.55 ℓ
Answer(s): 2.55 ℓ
