A jar contained 3.1 ℓ more water than a pot. After some water was poured from the jar to the pot, both the jar and the pot had 4 ℓ of water each. How much water was there in the pot at first?

Volume of water in the pot = 1 u
Volume of water in the jar = 1 u + 3.1
Total volume of water
= 1 u + 1 u + 3.1
= 2 u + 3.1
Total volume of water
= 2 x 4
= 8 ℓ
When water is poured from the jar to the pot, the total volume remains unchanged.
2 u + 3.1 = 8
2 u = 8 - 3.1
2 u = 4.9
1 u = 4.9 ÷ 2 = 2.45
Volume of water in the pot at first = 2.45 ℓ
Answer(s): 2.45 ℓ
