A pot contained 4.9 ℓ more water than a bottle. After some water was poured from the pot to the bottle, both the pot and the bottle had 7 ℓ of water each. How much water was there in the bottle at first?

Volume of water in the bottle = 1 u
Volume of water in the pot = 1 u + 4.9
Total volume of water
= 1 u + 1 u + 4.9
= 2 u + 4.9
Total volume of water
= 2 x 7
= 14 ℓ
When water is poured from the pot to the bottle, the total volume remains unchanged.
2 u + 4.9 = 14
2 u = 14 - 4.9
2 u = 9.1
1 u = 9.1 ÷ 2 = 4.55
Volume of water in the bottle at first = 4.55 ℓ
Answer(s): 4.55 ℓ
