Raeann bought 35 chikoos and 20 pears on Wednesday. Each day, she ate 4 chikoos and 1 pear. She started eating her fruits on Thursday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of chikoos and pears left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more pears than chikoos were there on Tuesday?

Chikoos |
Pears |
Before |
35 |
20 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
35 - 4 u |
20 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of pears and chikoos in the end is equal.
35 - 4 u = 20 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 35 - 20
3 u = 15
1 u = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Raeann ate for 5 days from Thursday onwards. At the end of Monday, there would be an equal number of chikoos and pears left.
(b)
Number of days from Thursday to Tuesday = 6
Number of chikoos left on Tuesday
= 35 - (4 x 6)
= 35 - 24
= 11
Number of pears left on Tuesday
= 20 - (1 x 6)
= 20 - 6
= 14
Number of pears more than chikoos
= 14 - 11
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Monday; (b) 3
