Zoe bought 30 kiwis and 15 oranges on Sunday. Each day, she ate 4 kiwis and 1 orange. She started eating her fruits on Monday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of kiwis and oranges left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more oranges than kiwis were there on Saturday?

Kiwis |
Oranges |
Before |
30 |
15 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
30 - 4 u |
15 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of oranges and kiwis in the end is equal.
30 - 4 u = 15 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 30 - 15
3 u = 15
1 u = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Zoe ate for 5 days from Monday onwards. At the end of Friday, there would be an equal number of kiwis and oranges left.
(b)
Number of days from Monday to Saturday = 6
Number of kiwis left on Saturday
= 30 - (4 x 6)
= 30 - 24
= 6
Number of oranges left on Saturday
= 15 - (1 x 6)
= 15 - 6
= 9
Number of oranges more than kiwis
= 9 - 6
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Friday; (b) 3
