Sabrina bought 26 kiwis and 10 oranges on Thursday. Each day, she ate 5 kiwis and 1 orange. She started eating her fruits on Friday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of kiwis and oranges left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more oranges than kiwis were there on Tuesday?

Kiwis |
Oranges |
Before |
26 |
10 |
Change |
- 5 u |
- 1 u |
After |
26 - 5 u |
10 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of oranges and kiwis in the end is equal.
26 - 5 u = 10 - 1 u
5 u - 1 u = 26 - 10
4 u = 16
1 u = 16 ÷ 4 = 4
Sabrina ate for 4 days from Friday onwards. At the end of Monday, there would be an equal number of kiwis and oranges left.
(b)
Number of days from Friday to Tuesday = 5
Number of kiwis left on Tuesday
= 26 - (5 x 5)
= 26 - 25
= 1
Number of oranges left on Tuesday
= 10 - (1 x 5)
= 10 - 5
= 5
Number of oranges more than kiwis
= 5 - 1
= 4
Answer(s): (a) Monday; (b) 4
