Shannon bought 29 chikoos and 14 apples on Sunday. Each day, she ate 4 chikoos and 1 apple. She started eating her fruits on Monday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of chikoos and apples left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more apples than chikoos were there on Saturday?

Chikoos |
Apples |
Before |
29 |
14 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
29 - 4 u |
14 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of apples and chikoos in the end is equal.
29 - 4 u = 14 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 29 - 14
3 u = 15
1 u = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Shannon ate for 5 days from Monday onwards. At the end of Friday, there would be an equal number of chikoos and apples left.
(b)
Number of days from Monday to Saturday = 6
Number of chikoos left on Saturday
= 29 - (4 x 6)
= 29 - 24
= 5
Number of apples left on Saturday
= 14 - (1 x 6)
= 14 - 6
= 8
Number of apples more than chikoos
= 8 - 5
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Friday; (b) 3
