Wendy bought 27 passion fruits and 18 starfruits on Thursday. Each day, she ate 4 passion fruits and 1 starfruit. She started eating her fruits on Friday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of passion fruits and starfruits left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more starfruits than passion fruits were there on Monday?

Passion Fruits |
Starfruits |
Before |
27 |
18 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
27 - 4 u |
18 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of starfruits and passion fruits in the end is equal.
27 - 4 u = 18 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 27 - 18
3 u = 9
1 u = 9 ÷ 3 = 3
Wendy ate for 3 days from Friday onwards. At the end of Sunday, there would be an equal number of passion fruits and starfruits left.
(b)
Number of days from Friday to Monday = 4
Number of passion fruits left on Monday
= 27 - (4 x 4)
= 27 - 16
= 11
Number of starfruits left on Monday
= 18 - (1 x 4)
= 18 - 4
= 14
Number of starfruits more than passion fruits
= 14 - 11
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Sunday; (b) 3
