Anna bought 24 chikoos and 12 persimmons on Tuesday. Each day, she ate 4 chikoos and 1 persimmon. She started eating her fruits on Wednesday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of chikoos and persimmons left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more persimmons than chikoos were there on Sunday?
|
Chikoos |
Persimmons |
Before |
24 |
12 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
24 - 4 u |
12 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of persimmons and chikoos in the end is equal.
24 - 4 u = 12 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 24 - 12
3 u = 12
1 u = 12 ÷ 3 = 4
Anna ate for 4 days from Wednesday onwards. At the end of Saturday, there would be an equal number of chikoos and persimmons left.
(b)
Number of days from Wednesday to Sunday = 5
Number of chikoos left on Sunday
= 24 - (4 x 5)
= 24 - 20
= 4
Number of persimmons left on Sunday
= 12 - (1 x 5)
= 12 - 5
= 7
Number of persimmons more than chikoos
= 7 - 4
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Saturday; (b) 3
