Anna bought 20 lemons and 10 chikoos on Thursday. Each day, she ate 3 lemons and 1 chikoo. She started eating her fruits on Friday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of lemons and chikoos left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more chikoos than lemons were there on Wednesday?
|
Lemons |
Chikoos |
Before |
20 |
10 |
Change |
- 3 u |
- 1 u |
After |
20 - 3 u |
10 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of chikoos and lemons in the end is equal.
20 - 3 u = 10 - 1 u
3 u - 1 u = 20 - 10
2 u = 10
1 u = 10 ÷ 2 = 5
Anna ate for 5 days from Friday onwards. At the end of Tuesday, there would be an equal number of lemons and chikoos left.
(b)
Number of days from Friday to Wednesday = 6
Number of lemons left on Wednesday
= 20 - (3 x 6)
= 20 - 18
= 2
Number of chikoos left on Wednesday
= 10 - (1 x 6)
= 10 - 6
= 4
Number of chikoos more than lemons
= 4 - 2
= 2
Answer(s): (a) Tuesday; (b) 2
