- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of persimmons and lemons left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more lemons than persimmons were there on Friday?

Persimmons |
Lemons |
Before |
28 |
13 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
28 - 4 u |
13 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of lemons and persimmons in the end is equal.
28 - 4 u = 13 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 28 - 13
3 u = 15
1 u = 15 ÷ 3 = 5
Yen ate for 5 days from Sunday onwards. At the end of Thursday, there would be an equal number of persimmons and lemons left.
(b)
Number of days from Sunday to Friday = 6
Number of persimmons left on Friday
= 28 - (4 x 6)
= 28 - 24
= 4
Number of lemons left on Friday
= 13 - (1 x 6)
= 13 - 6
= 7
Number of lemons more than persimmons
= 7 - 4
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Thursday; (b) 3
