Wendy bought 22 starfruits and 12 pears on Monday. Each day, she ate 3 starfruits and 1 pear. She started eating her fruits on Tuesday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of starfruits and pears left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more pears than starfruits were there on Sunday?

Starfruits |
Pears |
Before |
22 |
12 |
Change |
- 3 u |
- 1 u |
After |
22 - 3 u |
12 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of pears and starfruits in the end is equal.
22 - 3 u = 12 - 1 u
3 u - 1 u = 22 - 12
2 u = 10
1 u = 10 ÷ 2 = 5
Wendy ate for 5 days from Tuesday onwards. At the end of Saturday, there would be an equal number of starfruits and pears left.
(b)
Number of days from Tuesday to Sunday = 6
Number of starfruits left on Sunday
= 22 - (3 x 6)
= 22 - 18
= 4
Number of pears left on Sunday
= 12 - (1 x 6)
= 12 - 6
= 6
Number of pears more than starfruits
= 6 - 4
= 2
Answer(s): (a) Saturday; (b) 2
