Nora bought 16 kiwis and 10 persimmons on Monday. Each day, she ate 3 kiwis and 1 persimmon. She started eating her fruits on Tuesday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of kiwis and persimmons left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more persimmons than kiwis were there on Friday?

Kiwis |
Persimmons |
Before |
16 |
10 |
Change |
- 3 u |
- 1 u |
After |
16 - 3 u |
10 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of persimmons and kiwis in the end is equal.
16 - 3 u = 10 - 1 u
3 u - 1 u = 16 - 10
2 u = 6
1 u = 6 ÷ 2 = 3
Nora ate for 3 days from Tuesday onwards. At the end of Thursday, there would be an equal number of kiwis and persimmons left.
(b)
Number of days from Tuesday to Friday = 4
Number of kiwis left on Friday
= 16 - (3 x 4)
= 16 - 12
= 4
Number of persimmons left on Friday
= 10 - (1 x 4)
= 10 - 4
= 6
Number of persimmons more than kiwis
= 6 - 4
= 2
Answer(s): (a) Thursday; (b) 2
