Shiyun bought 23 chikoos and 11 mangoes on Monday. Each day, she ate 4 chikoos and 1 mango. She started eating her fruits on Tuesday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of chikoos and mangoes left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more mangoes than chikoos were there on Saturday?

Chikoos |
Mangoes |
Before |
23 |
11 |
Change |
- 4 u |
- 1 u |
After |
23 - 4 u |
11 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of mangoes and chikoos in the end is equal.
23 - 4 u = 11 - 1 u
4 u - 1 u = 23 - 11
3 u = 12
1 u = 12 ÷ 3 = 4
Shiyun ate for 4 days from Tuesday onwards. At the end of Friday, there would be an equal number of chikoos and mangoes left.
(b)
Number of days from Tuesday to Saturday = 5
Number of chikoos left on Saturday
= 23 - (4 x 5)
= 23 - 20
= 3
Number of mangoes left on Saturday
= 11 - (1 x 5)
= 11 - 5
= 6
Number of mangoes more than chikoos
= 6 - 3
= 3
Answer(s): (a) Friday; (b) 3
