The number of starfruits and persimmons in the end is equal.

33 - 5 u = 17 - 1 u

Gillian ate for 4 days from Tuesday onwards.  At the end of Friday, there would be an equal number of persimmons and starfruits left.

Number of days from Tuesday to Saturday = 5

Number of persimmons left on Saturday
= 33 - (5 x 5)
= 33 - 25
= 8

Number of starfruits left on Saturday
= 17 - (1 x 5)
= 17 - 5
= 12

= 12 - 8
= 4
