Diana bought 17 chikoos and 11 passion fruits on Thursday. Each day, she ate 3 chikoos and 1 passion fruit. She started eating her fruits on Friday.
- At the end of which day would there be an equal number of chikoos and passion fruits left? Give your answer in the following format. (Eg Monday)
- How many more passion fruits than chikoos were there on Monday?
|
Chikoos |
Passion Fruits |
Before |
17 |
11 |
Change |
- 3 u |
- 1 u |
After |
17 - 3 u |
11 - 1 u |
(a)
Let the number of days be 1 u.
The number of passion fruits and chikoos in the end is equal.
17 - 3 u = 11 - 1 u
3 u - 1 u = 17 - 11
2 u = 6
1 u = 6 ÷ 2 = 3
Diana ate for 3 days from Friday onwards. At the end of Sunday, there would be an equal number of chikoos and passion fruits left.
(b)
Number of days from Friday to Monday = 4
Number of chikoos left on Monday
= 17 - (3 x 4)
= 17 - 12
= 5
Number of passion fruits left on Monday
= 11 - (1 x 4)
= 11 - 4
= 7
Number of passion fruits more than chikoos
= 7 - 5
= 2
Answer(s): (a) Sunday; (b) 2
