An equal number of chocolate bars were distributed to 5 boys and 10 girls. Each boy then gave
45 of her share of chocolate bars to the girls. As a result, each girl received 8 more chocolate bars.
- How many chocolate bars did each boy have left?
- Find the total number of chocolate bars each girl had after receiving more chocolate bars from the boys.
(a)
Number of chocolate bars that the boys gave to the girls
= 10 x 8
= 80
Number of chocolate bars that each boy gave to the girls
= 80 ÷ 5
= 16
Number of chocolate bars that each boy had at first = 5 u
Number of chocolate bars that each boy gave away = 4 u
4 u = 16
1 u = 16 ÷ 4 = 4
Number of chocolate bars that each boy left
= 5 u - 4 u
= 1 u
= 4
(b)
Number of chocolate bars that each girl had in the end
= 5 u + 8
= 5 x 4 + 8
= 20 + 8
= 28
Answer(s): (a) 4; (b) 28
