At a supermarket, there were
13 as many persimmons as pears. After 4 persimmons and 22 pears were sold, the number of persimmons became the same as the number of pears. How many fruits were at the supermarket in the end?

Persimmons |
Pears |
Before |
1 u |
3 u |
Change |
- 4 |
- 22 |
After |
1 u - 4 |
3 u - 22 |
Number of persimmons and pears in the end is the same.
3 u - 22 = 1 u - 4
3 u - 1 u = 22 - 4
2 u = 18
1 u = 18 ÷ 2 = 9
Number of fruits in the end
= 1 u - 4 + 3 u - 22
= 4 u - 26
= 4 x 9 - 26
= 36 - 26
= 10
