At a supermarket, there were
13 as many starfruits as kiwis. After 5 starfruits and 23 kiwis were sold, the number of starfruits became the same as the number of kiwis. How many fruits were at the supermarket in the end?
|
Starfruits |
Kiwis |
Before |
1 u |
3 u |
Change |
- 5 |
- 23 |
After |
1 u - 5 |
3 u - 23 |
Number of starfruits and kiwis in the end is the same.
3 u - 23 = 1 u - 5
3 u - 1 u = 23 - 5
2 u = 18
1 u = 18 ÷ 2 = 9
Number of fruits in the end
= 1 u - 5 + 3 u - 23
= 4 u - 28
= 4 x 9 - 28
= 36 - 28
= 8
Answer(s): 8
