Difference in the length between the second and the third piece
= 5 m
= 5 x 100
= 500 cm

Length of a stick
= 6 m 4 cm
= 6 x 100 + 4
= 604 cm

Length of the first piece = 50 cm
Length of the second piece = 1 u
Length of the third piece = 1 u + 500 cm

1 u + 1 u + 500 + 50 = 604
2 u + 550 = 604
2 u = 604 - 550 = 54
1 u = 54 ÷ 2 = 27 

Length of the third piece of stick
= 1 u + 500
= 27 + 500
