Mrs Asher bought a vest and a ring at a discount. She spent a total of $106.20 on these two items. She spent $41.40 more on the ring than on the vest.

1. How much did she spend on the ring?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $11.80. She was given a 10% discount for the vest. What was the percentage discount given for the ring?

Amount spent on the vest = 1 u
Amount spent on the ring = 1 u + 41.40

Total amount spent on the vest and the ring
= 1 u + 1 u + 41.40
= 2 u + 41.40

2 u + 41.40 = 106.20
2 u = 106.20 - 41.40
2 u = 64.80

1 u = 64.80 ÷ 2 = 32.40

Amount that Mrs Asher spent on the ring
= 32.40 + 41.40
= $73.80

Original price of the ring
