Mrs Flynn bought a blouse and a ring at a discount. She spent a total of $73.30 on these two items. She spent $50.90 more on the ring than on the blouse.

1. How much did she spend on the ring?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $9.70. She was given a 20% discount for the blouse. What was the percentage discount given for the ring?

Amount spent on the blouse = 1 u
Amount spent on the ring = 1 u + 50.90

Total amount spent on the blouse and the ring
= 1 u + 1 u + 50.90
= 2 u + 50.90

2 u + 50.90 = 73.30
2 u = 73.30 - 50.90
2 u = 22.40

1 u = 22.40 ÷ 2 = 11.20

Amount that Mrs Flynn spent on the ring
= 11.20 + 50.90
= $62.10
