Mrs Xavier bought a dress and a bracelet at a discount. She spent a total of $75.90 on these two items. She spent $16.50 more on the bracelet than on the dress.

1. How much did she spend on the bracelet?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $34.10. She was given a 10% discount for the dress. What was the percentage discount given for the bracelet?

Amount spent on the dress = 1 u
Amount spent on the bracelet = 1 u + 16.50

Total amount spent on the dress and the bracelet
= 1 u + 1 u + 16.50
= 2 u + 16.50

2 u + 16.50 = 75.90
2 u = 75.90 - 16.50
2 u = 59.40

1 u = 59.40 ÷ 2 = 29.70

Amount that Mrs Xavier spent on the bracelet
= 29.70 + 16.50
= $46.20
