Mrs Reggie bought a coat and a bracelet at a discount. She spent a total of $67.70 on these two items. She spent $23.30 more on the bracelet than on the coat.

1. How much did she spend on the bracelet?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $34.30. She was given a 40% discount for the coat. What was the percentage discount given for the bracelet?

Amount spent on the coat = 1 u
Amount spent on the bracelet = 1 u + 23.30

Total amount spent on the coat and the bracelet
= 1 u + 1 u + 23.30
= 2 u + 23.30

2 u + 23.30 = 67.70
2 u = 67.70 - 23.30
2 u = 44.40

1 u = 44.40 ÷ 2 = 22.20

Amount that Mrs Reggie spent on the bracelet
= 22.20 + 23.30
= $45.50
