Mrs Reggie bought a sweater and a bracelet at a discount. She spent a total of $60.90 on these two items. She spent $41.70 more on the bracelet than on the sweater.

1. How much did she spend on the bracelet?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $12.10. She was given a 40% discount for the sweater. What was the percentage discount given for the bracelet?

Amount spent on the sweater = 1 u
Amount spent on the bracelet = 1 u + 41.70

Total amount spent on the sweater and the bracelet
= 1 u + 1 u + 41.70
= 2 u + 41.70

2 u + 41.70 = 60.90
2 u = 60.90 - 41.70
2 u = 19.20

1 u = 19.20 ÷ 2 = 9.60

Amount that Mrs Reggie spent on the bracelet
= 9.60 + 41.70
= $51.30
