Mrs Zane bought a vest and a necklace at a discount. She spent a total of $65.70 on these two items. She spent $22.50 more on the necklace than on the vest.

1. How much did she spend on the necklace?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $24.30. She was given a 20% discount for the vest. What was the percentage discount given for the necklace?

Amount spent on the vest = 1 u
Amount spent on the necklace = 1 u + 22.50

Total amount spent on the vest and the necklace
= 1 u + 1 u + 22.50
= 2 u + 22.50

2 u + 22.50 = 65.70
2 u = 65.70 - 22.50
2 u = 43.20

1 u = 43.20 ÷ 2 = 21.60

Amount that Mrs Zane spent on the necklace
= 21.60 + 22.50
= $44.10

Original price of the necklace
