Mrs Bobby bought a blouse and a ring at a discount. She spent a total of $85.50 on these two items. She spent $15.30 more on the ring than on the blouse.

1. How much did she spend on the ring?
2. The total discount given for the two items was $9.50. She was given a 10% discount for the blouse. What was the percentage discount given for the ring?

Amount spent on the blouse = 1 u
Amount spent on the ring = 1 u + 15.30

Total amount spent on the blouse and the ring
= 1 u + 1 u + 15.30
= 2 u + 15.30

2 u + 15.30 = 85.50
2 u = 85.50 - 15.30
2 u = 70.20

1 u = 70.20 ÷ 2 = 35.10

Amount that Mrs Bobby spent on the ring
= 35.10 + 15.30
= $50.40

Original price of the ring
