Upon reaching the end of the path, Julie rested for 5 minutes. She then immediately ran back along the same route at 4 m/s. At 11.30 a.m., Tiffany met Julie.

1. Find the total distance covered by the two runners when they met each other. Express your answer in km.

= 3 x 1800

Distance that Julie ran
= 4 x 1500
= 6000 m

Distance that Tiffany and Julie ran
= 5400 + 6000
= 11400 m

11400 m = 11400 ÷ 1000 = 11.4 km
