Figure W shows a rectangular container. It is
25 filled with water. The length of the container is 14 cm and its breadth is 3 cm.
- Find the capacity of the container in litres.
- All the water in the rectangular container is poured into another tank as shown in Figure X. Find the height that represents the water level of the amount of water in it.
(a)
Volume of the water
= 14 x 3 x 8
= 336 cm
3 2 u = 336
1 u = 336 ÷ 2 = 168
5 u = 5 x 168 = 840
1000 cm
3 = 1 ℓ
840 cm
3 = 0.84 ℓ
Capacity of the container = 0.84 ℓ
(b)
Base area of the tank
= 7 x 6
= 42 cm
3 Height of the water
= 336 ÷ 42
= 8 cm
Answer(s): (a) 0.84 ℓ; (b) 8 cm
