The graph shows the number of pens 3 pupils collected. Study the graph and answer the following.
- Who collected 35 pens? Give the answer in number. (Eg 1)
- Which 2 pupils collected a total of 65 pens? Give the answer in numbers. (Eg 1, 2)
- How many pens must Mara give to May so that both of them would have the same number of pens?
(a)
5 pens → 1 triangle
35 pens → 35 ÷ 5 = 7 triangles
(2) Lily has 7 triangles so she collected 35 pens.
(b)
Total number of triangles represented by 65 pens
= 65 ÷ 5
= 13
Number of triangles that Lily and May had
= 7 + 6
= 13
2 pupils who collected a total of 65 pens are (2) Lily and (3) May.
(c)
Difference in the number of triangles that Mara and May had
= 8 - 6
= 2
Number of pens that Mara must give to May
= 2 ÷ 2 x 5
= 5
Answer(s): (a) 2; (b) 2, 3; (c) 5
