The graph shows the number of pens 3 pupils collected. Study the graph and answer the following.
- Who collected 24 pens? Give the answer in number. (Eg 1)
- Which 2 pupils collected a total of 60 pens? Give the answer in numbers. (Eg 1, 2)
- How many pens must Elsa give to Mia so that both of them would have the same number of pens?
(a)
6 pens → 1 box
24 pens → 24 ÷ 6 = 4 boxes
(1) May has 4 boxes so she collected 24 pens.
(b)
Total number of boxes represented by 60 pens
= 60 ÷ 6
= 10
Number of boxes that May and Elsa had
= 4 + 6
= 10
2 pupils who collected a total of 60 pens are (1) May and (3) Elsa.
(c)
Difference in the number of boxes between Elsa and Mia
= 6 - 5
= 1
Number of pens that Elsa must give to Mia
= 1 ÷ 2 x 6
= 3
Answer(s): (a) 1; (b) 1, 3; (c) 3
