The graph shows the number of coins 3 pupils collected. Study the graph and answer the following.
- Who collected 8 coins? Give the answer in number. (Eg 1)
- Which 2 pupils collected a total of 20 coins? Give the answer in numbers. (Eg 1, 2)
- How many coins must Mandy give to Penny so that both of them would have the same number of coins?
(a)
2 coins → 1 box
8 coins → 8 ÷ 2 = 4 boxes
(1) Mia has 4 boxes so she collected 8 coins.
(b)
Total number of boxes represented by 20 coins
= 20 ÷ 2
= 10
Number of boxes that Mia and Mandy had
= 4 + 6
= 10
2 pupils who collected a total of 20 coins are (1) Mia and (3) Mandy.
(c)
Difference in the number of boxes between Mandy and Penny
= 6 - 5
= 1
Number of coins that Mandy must give to Penny
= 1 ÷ 2 x 2
= 1
Answer(s): (a) 1; (b) 1, 3; (c) 1
