The graph shows the number of buttons 3 pupils collected. Study the graph and answer the following.
- Who collected 24 buttons? Give the answer in number. (Eg 1)
- Which 2 pupils collected a total of 60 buttons? Give the answer in numbers. (Eg 1, 2)
- How many buttons must Opal give to Nora so that both of them would have the same number of buttons?
(a)
6 buttons → 1 box
24 buttons → 24 ÷ 6 = 4 boxes
(1) Ella has 4 boxes so she collected 24 buttons.
(b)
Total number of boxes represented by 60 buttons
= 60 ÷ 6
= 10
Number of boxes that Ella and Opal had
= 4 + 6
= 10
2 pupils who collected a total of 60 buttons are (1) Ella and (3) Opal.
(c)
Difference in the number of boxes between Opal and Nora
= 6 - 5
= 1
Number of buttons that Opal must give to Nora
= 1 ÷ 2 x 6
= 3
Answer(s): (a) 1; (b) 1, 3; (c) 3
