Gem and Fanny made some strawberry buns and cheese buns. Gem made 16 more strawberry buns than cheese buns. Fanny made 48 more cheese buns than strawberry buns. The total number of strawberry buns made up 42% of the total number of buns they made. How many cheese buns did they make altogether?

Fanny
Number of strawberry buns = 1 p
Number of cheese buns = 1 p + 48

Number of cheese buns in percent
= 100% - 42%
= 58%

1 u + 16 + 1 p = 42% --- (1)
1 u + 1 p + 48 = 58% --- (2)

58% - 42% = 48 - 16
16% = 32

1% = 32 ÷ 16 = 2

Number of cheese buns that they made altogether
= 58%
= 58 x 2
