Nicole bought some bags of apples. Each bag contained 9 apples. The total number of apples Nicole bought was less than 50. Nicole ate 5 apples and gave the rest equally to her 5 friends.

The total number of apples is the multiples of 9 since each bag contained 9 apples.
Multiples of 9: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45

The total number of apples given to the 5 friends is the multiples of 5 since there were 5 friends.
Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45

The total number of apples is the multiples of 5 with an added 5 apples since Nicole ate 5 apples.
Multiples of 5 (+5): 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50

Number of apples that Nicole bought = 45
