Zoe bought some bags of starfruits. Each bag contained 8 starfruits. The total number of starfruits Zoe bought was less than 40. Zoe ate 4 starfruits and gave the rest equally to her 7 friends.

The total number of starfruits is the multiples of 8 since each bag contained 8 starfruits.
Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32

The total number of starfruits given to the 7 friends is the multiples of 7 since there were 7 friends.
Multiples of 7: 7, 14, 21, 28, 35

The total number of starfruits is the multiples of 7 with an added 4 starfruits since Zoe ate 4 starfruits.
Multiples of 7 (+4): 11, 18, 25, 32, 39

Number of starfruits that Zoe bought = 32

= (32 - 4) ÷ 7
= 28 ÷ 7
